The 610 Office—the “Gestapo” of China—was created by former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Jiang Zemin. It’s used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in China. The director of the 610 Office oversees this extra-legal organization and commands the vast resources of the public security, state security, propaganda, and education ministries in China. Yet, it is precisely this director position that is known in China as the “death” position for a person’s political career in the Communist Party.
Former directors of the 610 Office were brought down during the “anti-corruption campaign” by current leader Xi Jinping. In this episode, we focus on Fu Zhenghua—who worked as the 610 director from 2015 to 2018—as well as Sun Lijun—who also worked in the 610 Office and was recently double-terminated from Party membership and his Party position. Before them, there was Zhou Yongkang, a notoriously powerful CCP Politburo member who once commanded the law enforcement system. And Li Dong Sheng and Peng Bo also served in the roles within the 610 Office.
The 610 Office oversaw the persecution of Falun Gong since its creation by former CCP leader Jiang Zemin in 1999. It continues to play the main role of targeting Falun Gong believers in China.
We also discuss a new propaganda film from China called “Battle at Lake Changjin.” It’s a film celebrating the CCP’s so-called victory over U.N. forces in the battle of Lake Chosin during the Korean War. We discuss why the situation may not be such a victory by definition—including how the Chinese volunteer army, composed of around half fully combat-ready regular forces in China, suffered massive non-combat casualties from the cold—as well as the largest evacuation in the history of the US military by sea.
