As different Qigong practices rapidly grew in popularity in the 80’s to early 90’s, many false and sham practices emerged as well. Qigong practitioners in China continue to seek out genuine practices for healing and wellbeing. One morning in the city of Changchun, after completing exercise, several qigong practitioners discuss their experiences, and are joined by a Qigong teacher who begins to explain the reasons and deeper meanings of their experiences. He demonstrates a few exercises of a Qigong for them, and thereafter they begin to practice them readily. The practice is known as Falun Gong, and the teacher’s name is Li Hongzhi.

On April 25 ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners gathered at the central appeals office in Beijing to request that the harassment of practitioners and restrictions on publishing Falun Gong teachings end and that the unlawfully detained practitioners be released. Falun Gong becomes accepted and endorsed by the Chinese state within a new category of human science. Yet its substantial popularity growth and free-to-practice nature disrupt contemporary Qigong practices founded by other teachers who are largely in it for profit. They begin an effort to discredit Falun Gong. Falun Gong practitioners would mobilize to clarify and resolve each false accusation, demonstrating the true peaceful nature of the practice. However the continued rapid growth of the practice eventually catches the full attention of the Chinese Communist Party’s leader, and an investigation is launched to as precursor to a full ban.

As many spiritual practices in history have experienced, along with the growth and popularity come difficulties and trials to test the adherents’ faith and evaluate one’s worthiness for the benefits of the practice. Such is also the fate of Falun Gong. Many practitioners sense an impending crackdown from the Chinese Communist Party. However, few could predict the persecution’s eventual size, scale, and severity.
With the persecution of Falun Gong already underway, practitioners in Beijing organize a secret press conference with international press to explain what the practice is, and remove any misinterpretations. Yet despite this, and the growing efforts of Falun Dafa practitioners to clarify untruths, Jiang Zemin, the President and leader of the Party had already set the persecution of Falun Dafa into motion. A specific arm of the government known as a the 610 office is created specifically to eradicate the practice, and soon thereafter true human rights crimes would begin at mass scale.
In the face of a rising brutal persecution and pervading hate propaganda campaign across Chinese state television, Falun Gong practitioners take it upon themselves to help spread the truth about Falun Gong and what is really happening in China. They establish media channels, communication platforms, flyers, and distribute documents and DVDs to common people in China as well as all around the world. The message is simple and clear, Falun Gong is good, and believes in Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance, the persecution and genocide of the practice is unjust, and most urgently, it is happening a wide systematic scale across China.
