Now and For the Future

In the 90’s, a meditation practice, Falun Gong (a.k.a. Falun Dafa), grew exponentially in popularity amid the background of other Qigong practices in China. What is so special about Falun Gong which sets it apart to see such rapid in growth, and why did Communist China initially promote the practice but eventually take a turn to ban the practice and begin one of the most brutal persecutions of modern day?
